Harding High School’s Junior Varsity tennis team lost a tough game to Cretin-Derham Hall High School Monday, Sept. 26 with a score of 1 to 6.

To prepare for their tennis games, Michelle Collette, tennis coach and math  teacher, has the team visualize winning, watching the things that they need to do and the position of their form.

During a typical tennis practice, the Junior Varsity team participates in a series of warm up exercises to prepare their minds for strenuous activities before diving into the sport of tennis. The kinds of exercises that they do consist of mostly leg workouts such as jogging, as well as basic aerobics.

Playing sports comes with a series of obstacles, both physical and mental. Injuries are common and can lead to temporary discomfort and pain. But mental obstacles can be even bigger hurdles to overcome. Ms. Collette said she thinks that the biggest challenge is the mental aspect.

One JV player said she has a very specific goal. “I’d like work on my serves,” said the sophomore, who has been playing tennis for about a year and said she has gradually been improving.
